Yakitori are Japanese grilled skewers – spelt ‘Yakidori’ on our menu. At Han Kitchen in Zurich-Oerlikon a portion of 2 skewers costs CHF 15.00 and makes a warm, savoury starter, at the table or to take away.
What is yakitori?
Yakitori (焼き鳥) literally means ‘grilled bird’: ‘yaki’ is to grill and ‘tori’ is chicken or poultry. ‘Yakidori’ is a common alternative spelling of the same word. In Japan the small skewers are grilled over charcoal in izakaya and at street stalls and seasoned either simply with salt (shio) or with a glossy, sweet-savoury sauce (tare) made from soy sauce, mirin and sugar.
