In short

Maguro Nigiri is the tuna nigiri at Han Kitchen in Zurich Oerlikon: a slice of red tuna on hand-shaped sushi rice, 2 pieces for CHF 10.00 (maguro is Japanese for tuna). According to our menu the tuna comes from Vietnam. Enjoy it with us on Baumackerstrasse 46 or take it with you.

Bold, red and clean-tasting

Alongside salmon, tuna is one of the most important fish in sushi – and in character it is almost the opposite. Where salmon is mild and buttery, tuna is bold, clean and almost meaty. Its deep red colour makes Maguro Nigiri the visual counterpoint on any sushi platter.

As with every nigiri, the raw fish rests on a small ball of rice shaped by hand. Nothing more is needed: the slice of tuna carries the flavour, while the lightly seasoned rice holds it together.

Our priciest nigiri – and why it is worth it

At CHF 10.00 for 2 pieces, Maguro Nigiri is the highest-priced nigiri on our menu. The others cost CHF 9.00, and the vegetarian Inari Nigiri CHF 8.00. If you want more tuna, go for the Tekka Maki (CHF 10.00 for 6 pieces) or the Tuna Sashimi (CHF 14.00 for 4 pieces).

Our tip for a small nigiri selection for two: one portion each of maguro, salmon and unagi. That puts raw tuna, raw salmon and cooked eel side by side – three very different flavours on one plate.
