Inari is sushi rice tucked into a sweetly seasoned pouch of fried tofu – and our Inari Nigiri is the vegetarian nigiri on the menu: 2 pieces for CHF 8.00, the most affordable nigiri at Han Kitchen. Enjoy it in the restaurant on Baumackerstrasse 46 in Zurich Oerlikon or take it away.
What is inari?
Inari sushi, known in Japan as inarizushi, is made with abura-age: thin slices of tofu that are deep-fried and then simmered in a sweet and savoury broth. This makes them soft, juicy and slightly sweet. The tofu is opened into little pouches and filled with sushi rice – sushi without any fish that is still full of flavour.
The name comes from Inari, a Shinto deity whose fox messengers are said, according to legend, to be very fond of fried tofu. In Japan, inari sushi is a classic for picnics and bento boxes and is usually eaten cold.
Vegetarian sushi at Han Kitchen
Inari Nigiri is marked as vegetarian on our menu. Together with the Avocado Maki and Cucumber Maki (CHF 9.00 each for 6 pieces), it makes up our fish-free sushi selection. One portion of all three gives you 14 pieces of sushi in total – enough for a light meal or for sharing.
If you would like something warm as well, add a dish that is also available in a vegetarian version, such as Vegetarian Bibimbap (CHF 29.90) or Japchae with vegetables (CHF 24.90). For questions about ingredients, please refer to the allergen notice on our menu – our team is happy to help.
