Tekka maki is the Japanese name for the classic tuna maki: red tuna, sushi rice and nori. At Han Kitchen in Zurich Oerlikon, 6 pieces cost CHF 10.00, and according to our menu the tuna comes from Vietnam. Enjoy it in the restaurant on Baumackerstrasse 46 or take it with you.
What makes tekka maki special
Tekka maki is one of the oldest and simplest maki in Japanese sushi. At its heart is a strip of raw tuna, surrounded by sushi rice and wrapped in nori. The tuna has a deep red colour and a clean, meaty flavour – quite different from mild, richer salmon.
Precisely because there is nothing else inside, the fish really speaks for itself. If you love tuna, tekka maki is its purest form at maki size: 6 small pieces that are easy to share.
Tuna on our sushi menu
We serve Vietnamese tuna in several ways. Alongside the Tekka Maki (CHF 10.00) you will find Maguro Nigiri (CHF 10.00 for 2 pieces), Tuna Sashimi (CHF 14.00 for 4 pieces) and Tuna Tartare (CHF 19.00). Among the rolls there is the Spicy Maguro Roll (CHF 12.00) and the Maguro Roll with cooked tuna (CHF 11.00).
A nice comparison on the plate: Tekka Maki next to Salmon Maki. You taste the two most important sushi fish in exactly the same format and notice the difference between bold and mild straight away.
