Take-away

Also: Takeaway · Take away

Take-away means food to go: you order from the restaurant, in person or by phone, and collect the finished dish yourself. Unlike delivery, nobody brings it to your door. At Han Kitchen in Zurich-Oerlikon you simply ring us or drop by during opening hours.

What exactly is take-away?

«Take-away» is the usual British and Swiss word for food you take with you; Americans tend to say «takeout» or «to go», and German speakers often say «zum Mitnehmen». It covers snack bars as well as restaurants that also pack their dishes for customers to take home.

What matters is how the food reaches you. With take-away you pick it up yourself. With delivery a courier brings it to you, usually via a platform that charges for the service. People often use the words interchangeably, but they are not the same thing.

How take-away works at Han Kitchen

We don’t deliver and we are not on any delivery platform. Instead, getting your food is simple: call us on 077 268 20 80, tell us what you would like, then collect it from the restaurant at Baumackerstrasse 46, 8050 Zürich. You are just as welcome to walk in without calling and order on the spot.

You can order anything on our menu – Korean dishes such as bibimbap or kimchi jeyuk bokkeum, Japanese rice bowls, sushi rolls, maki and nigiri.

Our food is cooked by a former chef of Globus Bellevue in Zurich. Whether you eat in or take away, it comes from the same kitchen.

When can I order take-away?

Take-away is available whenever we are open: Tuesday to Friday 11:30–14:00 and 17:00–22:00, Saturday 17:00–22:00, Sunday 13:00–21:00, closed on Mondays. Ordering by phone saves you waiting at the counter. On our day off we don’t take phone orders either.

Tips for food to go

Sushi, sashimi and tartare contain raw fish. Eat them soon after collecting and keep them cool until then – they don’t travel well in the heat. Warm dishes such as bibimbap, japchae or kimchi jjigae are best straight from the kitchen, though they still make a good meal at home after a quick reheat.

Ordering for several people? A mix of warm dishes and sushi works well for sharing. For larger quantities – a party or a team meal – our events and catering enquiry is the better route.
