In short

Our Cucumber Maki, known in Japan as kappa maki, is the freshest maki on the menu: 6 pieces for CHF 9.00, with sushi rice and crisp cucumber wrapped in nori. Enjoy it at Han Kitchen, Baumackerstrasse 46 in Zurich Oerlikon, or take it home with you.

Cool, crisp and simple

Cucumber Maki is all about contrast: savoury nori on the outside, soft and lightly seasoned sushi rice in between, and a strip of cucumber in the middle that snaps as you bite. It is not spicy and tastes pleasantly light – perfect between two richer dishes or as a refreshing finish.

The Japanese name, kappa maki, refers to the kappa, a water creature from Japanese folklore said to be very fond of cucumbers. In Japan it is one of the best-known maki of all and appears on almost every sushi menu.

Cucumber or Avocado Maki?

Both are vegetarian and both cost CHF 9.00, yet they taste completely different. Cucumber is fresh, juicy and crunchy; avocado is soft and creamy. Cannot decide? Order both and you have 12 pieces on the table – enough for a light meal or for sharing.

Cucumber Maki also makes an excellent companion to fish sushi. Between Salmon Nigiri (CHF 9.00), Tekka Maki (CHF 10.00) or a Rainbow Roll (CHF 13.00), it cleanses the palate so every piece tastes fresh again.

Take away or dine in

Cucumber Maki is available in the restaurant and to take away. Just call 077 268 20 80 or drop by during opening hours. We do not run a delivery service, so you collect your sushi freshly made, straight from our kitchen.

Organising drinks or a company get-together? With their small, neat pieces, maki are handy for larger groups. For orders like these, use our event and catering enquiry form, where you pick dishes and quantities from the menu.
